Read our Top Electrical Safety Tips for your Bedroom
The average person will spend up to a third of their lifetime in bed and that doesn?t include those sneaky duvet days! Here?s our top tips for keeping your bedroom electrically safe.
- If you are charging any electrical devices overnight, including phones and tablets, make sure they are on a hard surface such as a desk or table. Never on your bed or under your pillow while you sleep as they could overheat and cause a fire.
- We appreciate bedrooms never seem to have enough wall sockets, but try to avoid using multi-gang extension leads as they can easily be overloaded.
- Ensure you have smoke alarms fitted on every floor of your house, that early warning system could save your life.
- Make sure you regularly check cables and plugs for any signs of wear and tear, loose fittings, or damage. If you do notice anything concerning, stop using the appliance immediately and call MBC Electrical to check it out.
- If you are using a portable heater to keep warm, keep it away from flammable materials like papers, curtains and furniture and never use one to dry your clothes.
- Electric blankets are a common source of fires within the bedroom ? make sure you replace your blanket if you see any signs of wear and tear. Also read the manufacturer?s instructions when it when it comes to storage as incorrect folding could result in frayed wires and a compromised blanket.
